IKOSI-EJINRIN LCDA HOLDS MENSTRUAL HYGIENE ENLIGHTENMENT FOR TEENAGE GIRLS


In a bid to promote healthy living and empower the girl child, Ikosi-Ejinrin Local Council Development Area on Wednesday 17th September, 2025 organized a special enlightenment program on menstrual hygiene for teenage girls drawn from secondary schools across the LCDA. The event was held at the Council Secretariat, Agbowa.


The program, themed “Menstrual Hygiene: Caring for the Girl Child,” was facilitated by the Council Chairperson, Dr. Olajumoke Nafisat Anomo, a seasoned medical doctor, who also served as the host. 

In her welcome address, Dr. Anomo explained the rationale behind the initiative, urging the students to pay close attention and participate actively. She further demonstrated practical steps in maintaining proper menstrual and general hygiene, equipping the girls with knowledge for healthier and more confident living.




The Council’s Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Orebiyi Sunday, also addressed the students on other key areas of hygiene, complementing the Chairperson’s presentation.


The session was interactive, as the students enthusiastically asked questions on issues relating to menstrual hygiene and received clarifications. To further support them, each participant went home with gift packs containing sanitary pads, hygiene items, and cash to purchase sanitary pads of their choice.





The event was well attended by stakeholders, including the Executive Chairman, Otunba-Akogun Wale Raji Anomo, Council Manager, Mr. Sunday Awobajo; Council Treasurer, Mr. Lawal Adeshina; Wife of the Vice Chairman, Mrs. Aishat Dehinsilu; Wife of the Leader of the House, Mrs. Hassan; Chief Whip of the Legislative Council, Hon. Adesanya Shakirat; alongside management staff, teachers, and others.






The program was warmly received by the students and school representatives, who expressed appreciation to the Chairman and Chairperson for the impactful gesture, describing it as a timely intervention in advancing the welfare and confidence of young girls in Ikosi-Ejinrin.
