Ikosi-Ejinrin Youths Advocate for Dialogue Over Protests, Emphasize Calm Amid Economic Challenges

The Ikosi-Ejinrin LCDA Branch of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), representing all youth associations within the Ikosi-Ejinrin Local Council Development Area, has urged Nigerian youth to reconsider the path of protests in addressing the nation's current economic challenges.

In a press conference held on Thursday, July 31, 2024, at the LCDA Secretariat in Agbowa, NYCN Coordinator Comrade Yusuf Olabode underscored the importance of peaceful engagement and constructive dialogue in addressing the community’s concerns.

Comrade Yusuf Olabode drew attention to the aftermath of the #EndSARS protests, highlighting the significant disruptions to businesses, loss of lives, and destruction of properties, particularly in Lagos State. He cautioned against a recurrence of such events, advocating instead for dialogue as the most effective means for youth to voice their grievances and seek solutions.

Acknowledging the efforts of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to mitigate some of the nation’s pressing issues, Comrade Olabode cited several key initiatives, including the new minimum wage law, the introduction of student loans, and the financial autonomy granted to Local Governments. He noted that these measures, along with other initiatives such as the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and the sale of crude oil to local refineries in Naira, are essential steps toward economic stability.

Further, he commended Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, Deputy Governor Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, and the proactive leadership of Akogun Wale Raji Anomo, the Executive Chairman of Ikosi-Ejinrin LCDA, for their unwavering commitment to the community's welfare. He emphasized the need for Ikosi-Ejinrin to uphold its reputation for peace and harmony, urging residents to support ongoing initiatives aimed at addressing the region's challenges.

The press conference concluded with a strong reaffirmation of the youth's dedication to peace, dialogue, and the overall development of their community, reinforcing the belief that building the youth is synonymous with building the nation.
